ANNOTATION

The contributions of the participants of the 32nd Music Education Conference Musica viva in schola reflect current trends in music education from the perspective of the revision of curricular documents as well as other areas of topics that contemporary music education practice deals with. First of all, these are the influence of music education on the mental health of students, the role of music education in the development of critical thinking, and last but not least, innovations and possibilities of musical multimedia resources and modern technologies. In the authors' view, these areas are linked both to the general practice of music education and to selected areas of music education across educational levels and institutions. The contributions primarily represent the outputs of research activities of academic staff and doctoral students, but also overview texts and results of technological development.

The presented conference proceedings contain contributions from active participants of the 31st annual music education conference Musica viva in schola with international participation, held on 17 and 18 October 2023, the theme of which was "Tradition and Innovation in Music Education". The textbook Playful Music Education 5 consists of 10 thematically focused chapters that are linked to topics discussed in local history and natural science; it is closely linked to a methodological manual that includes a clearly defined lesson structure and can thus help even less experienced teachers; it also contains many ideas for activities from which the teacher can choose, and it is therefore possible to work creatively with the publications; the methodological manual ensures cross-curricular relationships; emphasis is also placed on the connection with art education, which was contributed to by cooperation with an experienced expert in this area. At the end of the textbook, there is a glossary of the terms and composers discussed, as well as a clear table with the distribution of the musical instruments already discussed. The textbook is supplemented by a workbook in which students can thoroughly practice the musicological curriculum and in which they will also find an appendix with new didactic cards with musical symbols, musical instruments and their names, etc. The chapters are structured in such a way as to motivate students to learn, whether in the form of introductory motivational tasks and pictures or other playful exercises, through which various musical skills and knowledge are gradually acquired. The textbook, workbook and methodological manual are accompanied by three CDs with recordings of sounds, listening compositions, sing-alongs and songs, which are available with and without singing.

ANNOTATION

The publication deals with the personality of the artist and university teacher, whose profile and legacy have not yet been processed. It was created with the aim of revealing unknown circumstances, especially of Buček's artistic legacy. Based on the comparative method and critical study of the unpublished legacy, new partial knowledge about Czech organ art of the second half of the twentieth century and the development of choral singing at Masaryk University could be obtained. All parts of the file are based on the study of sources of various nature, especially concert programs, press reviews and other responses to organ and choral concerts. Archival research was supplemented by interviews with eyewitnesses. Sources of knowledge were also music compendia and publications of a music-historical type. The text is divided into three parts. The first chapter discusses childhood and student years at the Brno Conservatory and the Janáček Academy of Performing Arts. The main part of the publication consists of a passage about M. Buček's artistic and pedagogical activities. The artistic and cultural education work carried out after the end of active activity at Masaryk University is outlined in the third chapter.

The proceeding from the jubilee 30th international music-educational conference Musica viva in schola continues the tradition of publishing MVIS conference papers from previous years. The contributions respond to current issues in music education and the arts and culture, including modern approaches in education and research projects. In addition to the above, the current year also focuses on musical traditions in music education. Authors include academics and researchers, as well as music didactics, practitioners, and representatives of national and international music education societies.

ANNOTATION

The presented publication provides information on the cultural and historical development of the festival, conception, compositions, nature of concert instruments, etc. The first chapter contains a cross-section of the 40-year history of the festival (Judita Kučerová). The historical study is followed by three chapters, which also include the personal memories and experiences of the current playwright and festival organizer Hana Bartošová. The founder of the organ festival, prof. Alena Veselá, former rector of the Janáček Academy of Performing Arts in Brno and still a concert organist. The chapter on concert organs, on which individual music evenings are held, was prepared by Jan Martin Bejček. The last part of the collective monograph consists of reviews of concerts held since the first years of the festival (Hana Bartošová), then in the period when the Brno Organ Festival was taken over by the artistic and financial patronage of the Moravian Composers' Club (Marek Sedláček), and an overview of concerts outside Brno (Hana Bartošová). Information about the authors is based on preserved written documents and interviews with witnesses and festival implementers.

The monograph presents the results of a research project carried out in 2018 by the team of the Department of Music, Faculty of Education, Masaryk University, with the aim of capturing the current state of music theory teaching in music schools in the Czech Republic. The data was obtained by a questionnaire survey of teachers and pupils of chosen schools. They touched on music didactic issues, teaching methods, aids and materials used in practice, including modern multimedia technologies. A survey into the area of ​​pupils' theoretical knowledge was also included. The research was carried out in order to obtain data for further improvement of music education at music schools.
