The master's studies at the Department of Music is carried out within the study program Secondary School Teacher Training in Music (following the Bachelor's degree in Music for education). The student always chooses a combination with another program, with a preference - major and minor.
Standard study period: 2 years
Form of study: full-time
Title/Degree: Mgr.
The study program contains a balanced ratio of theoretical and practical subjects needed for music teachers. You will encounter a number of courses, such as Musical aesthetics, Semiotics, Relations between types of art, and also Music multimedia and applications. Practical disciplines are represented by seminars focused on playing instruments (piano, violin, optionally also guitar, cimbalom), singing (solo and choral), music-movement education etc.
All the above competencies will be synthesized and integrated into the teaching practice in the subject of music didactics for primary and secondary schools.
The study program also offers the opportunity to perform artistically in ensembles conducted in the form of optional subjects: Faculty of Education Choir, Masaryk University Mixed Choir, orchestral ensemble Collegium musicum, or Cimbalom Ensemble.
Studying, theoretically and practically, you will deal with classical, popular, jazz, folk, Czech, and world music. As part of your studies, you can use the Erasmus+ program for studying abroad and participate in pedagogical or research activities.
If you have completed a bachelor's degree program in music education or a related field, then this Master's study is just for you. During your studies, you will go through teaching practice under the guidance of an experienced teacher at primary and secondary school, which will be supervised and subsequently evaluated in the Music didactics course.
